Guide to Muay Thai Vacations in Bangkok Part 1

As the home of Muay Thai, Thailand is clearly the best country to go for Muay Thai vacations. The country offers arguably the best Muay Thai training in the world with a seemingly unlimited selection of gyms to train at.

Bangkok is considered to be the mecca of Muay Thai with the most prestigious stadiums and the country’s top gyms all located within the city. If you are planning a training vacation here in the Thai capital, it is well worth planning ahead to get the most out of it.

Hydrate

The Bangkok heat can be overwhelming, especially if it’s your first visit. Even in the cooler months, temperatures can hover around 30°C. In the summer months between April to June, it can go up to the high thirties. Coupled with the humidity, and the intensity of training Muay Thai, dehydration can be a serious problem. Drink plenty of fluids like water, coconut water, sports drinks, and fruit juices to ensure that your body is properly hydrated.

Rest

Muscles recover and grow when you rest. It’s important to get enough rest after the hard training for safety, as well as achieve the best performance. No point overtraining and getting injured on a vacation.

Eat Well

The Thai diet consists of plenty of rice. The Thai fighters’ rice intake can be shocking when you look at their slim frames. Carbs are essential to supply energy for the training. So don’t worry about your carb intake - just eat. The only thing to avoid would be fast food but a little wouldn’t hurt on the weekends. It’s a vacation, after all. There are also pharmacies at every corner which are great places to stock up on supplements like multivitamins and fish oil caps for that extra support.

Respect

Respect is a major part of the whole Muay Thai and Thai culture in general. Showing respect to the trainers, training partners, will score you brownie points. See what others are doing and follow. Putting in effort during training is also a form of respect. Doing this will go a long way in making your stay a pleasant one.

Pick the Right Gym

With so many gyms to choose from, not every gym is going to be the right fit for everyone. Some gyms cater specifically to the tourist crowd, some to those looking to compete, some for fitness, and all those that fit in between. Some gyms are also inaccessible, poorly-maintained, and unenthusiastic.

Picking the right gym is clearly a key factor to consider. Here at Muay Thai Academy, we offer a convenient location, well-maintained facilities, champion trainers, elite training partners and inclusive environment for all levels.
